What are Task based tests?

Task based tests ask you to complete specific activities on a site, app, or prototype. The researcher might ask you to perform actions like searching for a product, signing up for an account, or completing a checkout flow. These studies help researchers understand what's working or can be improved in their product experiences.

Are Task based tests recorded?

Some Task based tests are recorded (screen, audio, and sometimes video), while others are not.

What kind of tasks will I complete?

The fun part about Task based tests is that you can always expect something different! Tasks vary depending on the researcher's goals.

Do I need to install anything?

Some Task based tests require a browser extension or mobile app. Don't worry — we'll let you know about any setup requirements before you start your study. For an overview of the tools you might need, check out tools for sharing feedback during UserTesting studies

 

How do incentives work?

The incentive amount for a Task based test depends on the estimated time and complexity. Since these studies may include recording your screen and voice, incentives are usually higher than Surveys. You can always find the exact incentive amount on the study details page before you apply.

Your incentive is processed within 14 days of completing a study. For more details, check out how and when your incentive will arrive and how to redeem your incentive.

 

I can't finish the study. What do I do?

  • If the issue is with the study or recorder, use the built-in Help feature to report the problem.
  • If the issue is on your end (like a disruption or technical setup), exit the study.

What if there's a technical issue?

Study won't load

Refresh the page, clear your browser cache, or try switching to another supported browser.

Use the Help feature

If you run into problems during the study, select the Help feature on the task widget. This lets the researcher know right away.  Learn how to use the Help feature

Not every study has this feature. If you can't find the Help option, contact Support
